What we Read in January

Happy New Year, y'all!  It has been a while since my last post.  I took the month of December to spend time with my family.  Christmas is our favorite holiday, and we like to focus on the true reason for the season.  We take time away from work and school and just enjoy each other.
So, you should have read a post from my goofy daughter, last week, about her tenth-grade expectations vs reality for the first semester.  If you haven't read it yet you should go check it out, she is hilarious! You can be expecting to hear from her hopefully once a week here on the blog.  Anyway, let's get into what we are reading this month.

We will start with our read-aloud books.  My kids still enjoy being read to, so we pick a few books to read-aloud each month.  This month we read three read-alouds.

The Cay by Theodore Taylor - we read this one just to for fun.  Everyone likes it so far, we are just about finished.

Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder - we enjoy have a book to listen to during our car rides, so we downloaded this on Hoopla.   The kids and even my husband ask for me to put this on as soon as we get in the car.  I think we may just continue through the entire series.

What Was Pompeii? by Jim O'Connor- We are learning about the Roman time-period in History, so this is to correlate with that.

My 10th-grade daughter is reading:
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
Beowulf translated by Seamus Heaney
The Activist by John Grisham

My 7th-grade son is reading:
Amos Fortune by Elizabeth Yates

My 6th-grade daughter is reading:
Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter

My 4th-grade son is reading:
The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
Flat Stanley created by Jeff Brown

I am only reading one book this month, but I would like to start reading two books each month. We will see how that goes next month.  Anyway I am reading, will actually listening to:
Through Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot

Are you reading any good books or do you have any book suggestions?  We would love to hear from you.  You will also be able to find this list on our YouTube Channel Life as Mrs.  Cooks.
