Balancing Diapers and Deadlines - Review

I'm writing this as I sit here and sip on a nice, warm cup of coffee.  You see I realize that life can be full as a wife and mom.  Full of appointments, errands, needs, wants, lists, plans, love, tears, prayers I could keep going, but I think you get the point.  If you add homeschool to that it gets even fuller, a work from home position, now it seems like the bubble is about to burst at any moment.  The joys of being a stay-at-home wife, homeschool, working, mom...
Did you hear the tires screech?  Now, in all seriousness it is joyful, however, life can seem overwhelming and stressful if we don't manage all of our hats right.  That is why I was thrilled to take the Balancing Diapers and Deadlines course from Lisa Tanner Writing.  Being a homeschool blogger is fun and I love to encourage other homeschooling moms, BUT my family MUST always come first.  That's why I happily agreed to review this course; to get some work-at-home productivity tips.  I hope you don't run when you see the word diapers.  Stick around and see what this time management for busy moms course has to offer.

About Balancing Diapers and Deadlines

This course was designed to help work-at-home moms balance their household commitments while they work from home.  This is a 30-lesson course that is broken up into 8 units.

The Units

  • Welcome to Balancing Diapers and Deadlines
  • Building Your Foundation with the Basics
  • Minimize Your Decisions
  • Minimize Your Decisions: The Annual Meal Plan
  • Sustainable Growth
  • Growing a Business with Your Kids Around
  • Boost Productivity
  • Closing Thoughts

Don't get anxious when you see the big number 30.  Each lesson is short, yet very informative.  It may take about 5-7 minutes to read through each lesson.
The course comes with downloadable worksheets, some links to other posts by Lisa, and action steps for each lesson.  You have the capability to check off each lesson as you complete it.  Each lesson is jammed packed with useful tips that I would have never thought of on my own.  I am working on learning to type faster so that I can type each post in less time, in return gaining more time for other things.  I would have never thought about doing that before this course.

Example of my Action Step

This action step came from the lesson, Mornings Matter.  It said something along the lines of, if you don't know what to accomplish in the mornings make a plan.
I am normally the first one woke around here, but I found that I use that time unwisely sometimes. I do thinks like scroll through social media for 30 minutes.  So I made a short plan of things I want to accomplish each morning.  I will eventually change this up some, but this is what I have so far.

My thoughts

I just want to encourage you to take your time, don't rush to get where Lisa is when you take this course.  She has years of experience, so take your time and work on each lesson and apply the steps that work for you.  I love that this is not one of those courses from someone who feels this should work based off what they have read or seen, instead this is from a person who is actually living this. She is a mom and she works from home, so she is speaking from experience.
I really liked what she mentioned about allowing your kids to see you what you do.  I would feel guilty sometimes when I had to step away from my children to work on a post, gather pictures for a graphic, spend some time researching a topic, etc.  I now allow them to help with graphics, write a post, proofread my work, get their opinions on products we are reviewing, and since this course, I have spoken to them about why I blog and work throughout social media.  This conversation has inspired them to want to help out even more, sometimes when it is not even needed.  Do you want to know a secret?  When they do help I count it as a school lesson.  This is life learning skills.  I would recommend this to busy, work-at-home moms.  It doesn't matter if you are considering working from home or if you have been doing it for many years you will receive some useful lessons from Lisa.  Like everything in life, there are things that may not apply to you, for instance, the year meal plan, I can't begin to imagine myself doing it.  I struggle with a two-week meal plan, however, it is still a great idea and it works for her. This is an awesome course and I plan to go back through it and work slowly on each lesson and apply what I can.
