Arts & Crafts Fun - A Zirrly Super Bead Jewelry Set Review

Arts & crafts, crafts & arts however you say it my kids are down for the part.  HAHA, that was funny!  Seriously though my kids love arts and crafts and their mama, that's me, is not a crafty person at all!  I mean I can make a few things here and there, but I am not an all-out arts & crafts type of person like they are, especially my youngest daughter.  I've been trying to do more arts &crafts so we were thrilled to try Super Beads from Zirrly.  We chose the Jewelry Set because she also loves jewelry.  I was like this is definitely going to be a hit.

When it arrived she wanted to open it immediately and start, but because we have a toddler in the house during the day I wanted her to wait and then life happened so we had to put it off a tad bit longer.  Y'all, this kid asked about her Zirrly bead set every day until we finally jumped in.

What are Super Beads?

Super Beads are very similar to fuse beads.  You know the ones the kids put together and then have to go get mom or dad to iron them so they stick? Yea, those.  However, with Super Beads there is no ironing once you have the beads in place you just spray them with water and they fuse together.  Tada!

What we received:

We received the Super Bead Jewelry Set which included 

300 + beads (pink, white, and yellow)

3 Puzzle Trays

2 Pattern Cards

1 Necklace

2 Earrings

1 Connector Piece

1 Spray Bottle

1 Plastic Tool

1 Instruction Manual

How we used it:

We got down on the living room floor, because it's more of an open space for the beads, and dug in.  She opened the beads, but she left them on the tray, that they came in, separated by color.  Then she placed each pattern card behind a puzzle tray and just lined the beads up according to the colors on the pattern card.  

Once she was finished she sprayed each bead with water using the water bottle that was provided.  We let it sit overnight even though it says 30 minutes because when we tried lifting the beads some were not ready.  The next day some of the beads still were not fused together.  We sprayed more water on them and they were fine, so I think we just didn't spray enough water, to begin with.  Once everything was dry she used the plastic tool to lift the beads off the puzzle tray and then she added the necklace piece for the necklace, the earring hooks for the earrings, and the connector piece for the bracelet.  It was so cute!

What my daughter thought:

I asked my daughter for her opinion of the Super Bead Jewelry Set and she said, "I like it but it took too long to dry.  I like how it had multiple puzzle trays so that I didn't have to do one at a time I was able to do it all at the same time.  I had leftover beads so I was able to make a necklace and bracelet for my doll.  The earring attachment was nice and flimsy so I didn't have to use pliers to connect them.  I liked having the pattern cards because it made the project easier.  I didn't like that the yellow rubbed off on my fingers and I wish I could have more color choices.  I would recommend this for other girls my age because it's not too messy and it comes with everything you need and it's super fun!

What I thought:

I think the Zirrly  Super Bead Jewelry Set was lots of fun and it was so simple even I could help.  My daughter is 11 and I personally think it was too simple for her but it was still fun.  After she finished she was looking for more.  She was like what's next?  I will suggest placing a paper towel under the puzzle trays before spraying the water because the water goes through the wholes. 

Also, I'm not sure why but the yellow beads color bleed onto my daughter's fingers.  It could have been because she had on lotion so we will try with freshly washed hands the next time.

If you are looking for fun ways to work on fine motor skills with your kids Super Beads would be great.  I also think it would be great for teaching kids how to follow written instructions, eye-hand coordination, and even helping the younger ones learn their colors.  It is not recommended for kids under three because of the small parts so be aware of that.  Overall we enjoyed this arts & crafts project very much!

I look forward to trying the Mega Pack and the 3D Packs next so that all the kids can join in.
