What we read in February in our Homeschool

I can't believe the month of February is already gone!  The days seem to be going by a lot faster lately.  The kids and I did not do as much reading this month.  Life got hectic and we just had a lot going on.  We did get some reading in though and we even listened to an audiobook, which we absolutely loved!  Even though we did not read as much as I would have liked to this month we could still meet our reading goal for the year.  Well, I will meet my goal, I didn't set one for the kids I just want them to read and enjoy it.  As promised I will be sharing with you all what books we are reading each month. So, here is what we read in February.

First, let's start with my 9th-grade daughter.  Our homeschool coop just recently started a book club, which I am very excited about!  She is reading The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Rudolf Wyss.  We have watched the movie to this so she was excited to read the book.  For Literature she is reading Homer The Iliad translated by Robert Fagles.  I don't think she is enjoying this one as much.  She loves to read however she just isn't enjoying this one she mentioned it was hard following along because of the difficulty in pronouncing the different names.  I am looking into finding the audiobook for it so that she can still become familiar with the story, but not have to be stressed out with reading it.  In her free time, she is reading book 4 in The Chronicles of Narnia series, Prince Caspian.  She is really enjoying this series and is looking forward to watching the movies all over again.

My 6th-grade son is also reading the Swiss Family reading with our homeschool co-op we are reading it together so he is really excited about that.  In his free time, he is still working on getting through White Fang.  I guess he is not into it as much as I thought he would be.  I asked him if he likes it and he said he does, but normally when he really enjoys a book he will swallow it up in a few days.

He and his older sister made a treehouse and raft for to go along with their story.  All of my children enjoy crafting!

My 5th-grade daughter and 3rd-grade son are also apart of our homeschool coop book club.  Their age group is reading The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner.  After they finished the book they watched the movie with the book club.  It was so much fun!  I also had them do a fun craft to go along with the story.  They each built their own version of a boxcar based on what they pictured from the book.

She made hers out of cardboard

He made his out of legos

I am reading Taming the Lecture Bug and Getting Your Kids to Think written by Joey and Carla Link.  I will be posting a book review on this one pretty soon so be sure you subscribe to my email list so that you can stay up to date when I publish a new post.  I'm also reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte with my book club.  I'm really enjoying how being apart of a book club is challenging me to read books I wouldn't normally read on my own.

As a family, we listened to Wulf the Saxon on audiobook.  That's one of the first audiobooks that we all enjoyed.  You can read our full review of this story here.

We also read several picture books.  Let me know if you'd like me to start including them as well.

What are you and your family currently reading?  Do you plan your reading around the holidays and the season?  Well, I hope you all have an amazing day!  Remember, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!

  1. We plan our reading around holidays a little. Around Christmas I bring out the Christmas books...and we do some Easter reading, and for a year we had a poetry book that had a different poem for each month we'd read at the beginning of the month. More often our reading is aligned with our history...but this year it gets to do both. It just happened that St. Patricks day and the time in history when he lived aligned for us this year! Yeah!
