My Top 3 Marriage Tips

My husband and I have been married for 7 years and we married fairly young.  People are always asking us how we do it or how we make it work?  I could go on forever about how we do it, but who has time to read all that?  So, I'm going to share my top 3 marriage tips with you.

Put your spouse's needs first!  I know it's easier said than done however, it can and should be done.  When you put your spouse's needs first both parties win!  I remember one day my back was killing me, I could hardly get out of the bed.  I looked at the clock and noticed it was almost time for my husband to be walking through the door from work, the house was  mess and I hadn't even started dinner.  So, I eased out of the bed and started picking up around the house and just as I was about to start dinner he walked through the door.  Everyday when he walks through the door from a long day at work the kids and I all run and jump into his arms to greet him.  Well this day the kids ran and I slowly walked over to him.  "What's wrong baby?" he asked.  I explained to him how bad my back was hurting therefore I had been in bed all day and was just now about to start on dinner, he wrapped his hands softly around me, kissed me on my forehead, and said, "Don't worry about dinner tonight baby, I got it."  I felt like a ton of bricks had been lifted off of me.  Moral of the story despite how much pain I was in I put the needs of husband first by trying to be sure the house was clean and dinner was made before he came home and on the flip side of that coin he put my needs first even though he had been at work for about 11 hours that day.  We were both happy with the outcome.  Both parties won!
Be content within your marriage.  All marriages go through seasons just like we go through different seasons in our life be content with what ever season you're in.  It's so easy to look at someone else's marriage and say I wish my marriage was like that or I wish my spouse was like that. Please!! You only know what you're allowed to see.  You also don't know what that marriage has been through to get to where it's at.  Don't rush your trials or your obstacles you are there for  reason.  Enjoy the season you are in, you will find a sense of peace you've never known before.
Keep folks out of your business!  This is another hard one but an absolute must!  Think about it ladies have you ever been mad at your husband because of something he did or didn't do and went to your best friend to talk about it?  How fast did it take for you to forgive your husband and how fast did it take your friend to get over it?  How about you men?  Have you ever complained to your mama about your wife not cleaning the house as much as you would like her to?  I bet that's the topic of every conversation your mama have when it comes to your wife.  I remember as a kid being told that what goes on in this house, stays in this house.  This should also be the case for your marriage.  I know it's so easy to pick up the phone and talk to someone else when you and your spouse are at odds, but I promise that will only make it worst you will forgive your spouse and that person will always feel some type of way about your spouse.  Try this, the next time you have a disagreement with your spouse or you're bothered by the way he/she does something and talking is just not working, go to God in prayer and leave it with Him. Which brings me to a bonus tip....
Always, always, always put God first in your marriage!  Many people fail to do this, they like to think they have it under control.  NO, you don't!  Ever wonder why it seems nothing is going right no matter how hard you try?  Don't just seek Him when you're in trouble or you need something, seek Him all the time and for everything.  Pray for your spouse and pray with your spouse!!
I pray these tips help you in your marriage or help prepare you for marriage.  Don't just read it apply it!

By the way, that's hubby and I on our wedding day.
