Ten Years of Marriage

As I sit here in my room listening to the rain hit my window I'm reflecting back on what God joined together.   My husband and I are celebrating 10 years of marriage!

I always knew I wanted to be a wife but I never thought I was good enough until I met Walter.  Seriously it was like love, at first sight, I know that sounds all mushy or what not but seriously it was. One day about three to four months into our relationship as I washed dishes and he rinsed he turned to me and said, "Are you going to be my wife?"  Yes, just like that! No ring, no fancy proposal, or anything.  For me, none of that mattered because I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him no matter how unromantic he was.  We were 18 and 19  at the time so of course, not too many people thought we should be marrying this young.   In our mind we were like wait a minute, we are already shacking up (which we should not have been doing) how could we be too young and what should we be waiting on?  We started planning right away and 3 years later at the age of 21 and 22, we got married.

Marriage is so important and your kids need to see you stay together.  They need to know what unconditional love, commitment, selflessness, hard work, dedication, etc., looks like!  Marriage takes all of that and so much more.  When I said I do I did not realize how much work I was going to have to put in.  I thought we would just carry on as we had been.  Yea right!  God designed marriage so trust that the devil will try to come after it.  I had to give up my selfish ways, he had to give up his (which he didn't really have), I had to realize that his needs come before mines, and one of the easiest but hardest for me was I had to learn to depend 100% on him for everything!!!  God made him the head for a reason.  So I had to learn how to submit myself to him, follow his lead, trust him and his decision-making, and let go of my "independent, I don't need a man" way of thinking.   Once I did that, and let go of that "well what about me and my feelings" attitude that rocky road became really smooth.

I am so thankful for his
patience
humbleness
protection
the way he provides
his willingness to lead his family on the path of righteousness
his loving heart
his listening ear (even when I know I'm getting on his nerves)
his fortitude
his respect
I could keep going but the list would never end.

These 10 years were not always a bed of roses but I am grateful for every year, month, week, day, hour, minute, and second that I have spent with this man and I look forward to many many more to come.

Happy 10 year anniversary Babe!!  I love you so so much!!
